“Woman in wheelchair, head drooped down, eyes shut, no response to me or materials I brought at first. Later, I made myself try again with soft-leaved, fragrant lavender plant. I touched her and asked if she’d like to feel something soft. I offered to help her by moving her arm and then did. Her entire countenance changed: a bit of movement and smile, recognition and brightness. ..I added smell with the touch, and had a similar response. A moment, a connection with a person, success.”
